G60 Science & Technology Innovation Valley

G60 Science & Technology Innovation Valley is one of the most dynamic Urbanization and most developed economic belts in China. G60 Science & Technology Innovation Valley contains nine Chinese cities: Shanghai, Jiaxing, Hangzhou, Jinhua, Suzhou, Huzhou, Xuancheng, Wuhu, and Hefei, covering an area of about 76,200 sq km.

G60 Science & Technology Innovation Valley will step up efforts to deepen the Industrial clusters layout, strengthen the infrastructure interconnection, press ahead with collaborative innovation, boost cooperation between brands and industrial parks, integrate industry and finance, promote the achievements of the comprehensive approval system reform, etc. in a bid to develop into a brand-studded collaborative development platform in the Yangtze River Delta region. From a higher level, the valley will play a role as the engine that drives a higher-quality integration of the Yangtze River Delta, and it will become a main arena in the region for the transformation from "Made in China" to "Created in China".

Development milestones:

I. Shanghai Songjiang G60 Science & Technology Innovation Valley (Version 1.0)

The development of G60 Science & Technology Innovation Valley is a process of transformation and upgrade. As one of the major manufacturing bases in Shanghai, Songjiang District embraced the overall transformation in the new era, studied international successful cases, followed the law of science and technology innovation development, and upheld the new development concept. The district made a first-ever proposal on May 24, 2016 to build an industry-finance integrated science and technology innovation valley along the G60 expressway. Led by Party construction and driven by technology and system innovation, Songjiang fully implemented the supply-side structural reform and boosted the transformation of the district toward "Created in Songjiang", creating the first version of G60 Science & Technology Innovation Valley.

Four remarkable results:

1. Strong innovation-driven development: Songjiang ranked first among all districts in Shanghai in terms of advanced manufacturing growth rate, and was also a leading district in the city in terms of both patent applications and patent licensing.

2. Sizable industrial structure adjustment: Songjiang accelerated its pace of phasing out excess capacity and closing down backward enterprises and promoted the high-efficient use of construction land.

3. Heavy investment in the advanced manufacturing sector: Songjiang attracted investment from several leading companies in strategic emerging industries, with the total investment in the advanced manufacturing sector and industrial fixed assets seeing rapid growth.

4. Significant effect of collaborative development: Songjiang became a strategic open and shared platform for collaborative innovation in the Yangtze River Delta region, and created an innovative corridor for high-quality development as per the national plan of "Made in China 2025".

II. Shanghai-Jiaxing-Hangzhou G60 Science & Technology Innovation Valley (Version 2.0)

In March 2017, the Zhejiang Provincial Government approved the establishment of the Zhejiang-Shanghai alignment demonstration zone in Jiaxing. Meanwhile, Songjiang also leveraged the core urban functions of Shanghai to promote cooperation among Shanghai, Jiaxing, and Hangzhou.

On July 12, 2017, Songjiang, Hangzhou, and Jiaxing inked the Strategic Partnership Agreement on Construction of Shanghai-Jiaxing-Hangzhou G60 Science & Technology Innovation Valley, marking the beginning of the G60 Science & Technology Innovation Valley version 2.0.

To explore a regional coordination mechanism for innovation chain, industrial chain, and value chain, Songjiang, Hangzhou, and Jiaxing deepened their cooperation in collaborative innovation, industrial integration, interconnection, mechanism improvement, etc. They achieved several significant results, such as setting up a cooperation mechanism for normalizing element alignment, promoting a gradient industry layout, and building a platform for science and technology innovation.

III. G60 Science & Technology Innovation Valley (Version 3.0)

Based on its role as the first demonstration zone aiming for the integration of the Yangtze River Delta region, Songjiang took a new look at the G60 Science & Technology Innovation Valley with a broader vision and a comprehensively innovative thinking. By deepening the valley's function positioning and charting a new course for the valley's future development, Songjiang proposed the G60 Science & Technology Innovation Valley version 3.0 that is centered on the high-speed rail construction in Shanghai, Suzhou, Huzhou, and Hefei.

On the basis of Shanghai, Jiaxing, and Hangzhou, the version 3.0 extended its reach to Jinhua, Suzhou, Huzhou, Xuancheng, Wuhu, and Hefei, with the total area covering about 76,200 sq km and the regional resident population reaching about 49 million. In addition, the total regional GDP hit about RMB 4.86 trillion, accounting for 21.2%, 22.3%, and 24.9% of the total GDP of the Yangtze River Delta region, respectively. With its development strategy upgrading from the city level to the Yangtze River Delta level, the version 3.0 will shift up a gear to overall planning and joint promotion, which will prompt it to set a higher positioning and a bigger mission.
